postheadericon Contracts

Many home owners are not bothered about having a house sitting contract, but our advice is that you should be inclined to have one as you do need something to base your house sitting job on, least of all so that at the end of your house sitting you can point to the contract or even the ‘agreement’ made between you and the home owner through the emails you have exchanged to prove you have carried out your half of the deal should you need to.

It’s only in the extreme minority of cases that this is necessary, usually home owners stick to what they say and you will become friends and think that a contract was never needed in the first place, you just have to watch out for the odd one or two who are not going to play fair.

This is why it’s worth asking the home owner if they have a contract already prepared, though most will say they’re not bothered. To this you can say ‘well let’s agree everything to do with the job on email then’ and once the emails between you both have confirmed everything to do with the job you have something to fall back on.

So do make sure that everything you have agreed verbally is also agreed in emails.
