It’s worth noting that in all the house sitting jobs we have collectively completed we have never entered a single contract nor ever paid a bond/deposit against any accidental damage we might do.

But there are good home owners and bad home owners.

Bad home owners fall into a tiny minority, but it’s possible that you might just come across one.

Unfortunately they don’t have ‘bad home owner’ tattooed across their foreheads and may come across as being really nice people and indeed will probably turn out to be so, but just in case they aren’t be sure not to drop your guard when it comes to giving yourself a bit of ‘protection’.

It’s only at the end of a house sitting job that you find out if there’s going to be a problem.

This is where the second use of your camera comes in.

You have some options of what you can do:

You can ask the owner on email or in a phone conversation ‘can we take photos inside and outside the house so they show what is in the house and any existing damage? They would also be useful should something unfortunate like a break in happen.’
